Tottenham Airfield Corportation (TAC) Bi-annual Review
I received support from council for a bi-annual review on the Fill and Site Alteration Permit for the Tottenham Airfield Corportation (TAC). The bi-annual review is on the agenda for this Monday August 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the council chambers.
Along with regular monthly meetings between with the Town, TAC and WSP (our consultant), the minutes from these meetings are available on the town’s website. As well, there are regular meetings with the residents of Tecumseth Pines, town staff, myself and the Mayor.
The report to council this week outlines the list of deficiencies that TAC needed to comply with or have their permit revoked. While they have been moving in a positive direction and supplying reports more punctually, there is still room for improvement. WSP recommended increasing the frequency of well testing and TAC’s consultant agreed.
Currently TAC has suspended their importation of fill as Free Cyanide was detected in the fill. How this contaminated soil was even allowed on-site is being investigated. Is it caused by a reaction to other soils? Is the source site testing inadequate? These are some of the questions I will be asking tomorrow night. Thanks to the protocols we put in place, the contamination was caught and the contaminated soil will be removed.
The cost for our consultant, all the legal fees, and the cost for staff to monitor the site, are paid for from the $.50/truck fee, something I advocated for. This means that this fill operation, which is of no benefit to the town, will not deplete town financial resources.
Paving of the 15th Sideroad
The 15th Sideroad will be paved up to the 10th by the end of this month. While campaigning 4 years ago, I heard from the residents that paving this road was a priority. Let me know what your concerns are for Ward 7 by sending me an email or text me at 905-936-9642.
High Speed Internet
Fibre is being installed along Highway 9 to the residents who live in the communities along this stretch of road. This includes Tecumseth Pines and the community at Burnell St. I are currently working with town staff and the ISP (Internet Service Provider) to identify any current policies that would present an impediment to installing internet infrastructure. Following this I will be pushing to remove any unnecessary bureaucracy so that it is straight forward for an ISP to deliver fibre to the rural residents of Ward 7.
